Color Matching: What to Expect When Repainting

Matching an existing paint color sounds simple, but the reality depends on the surface and the age of the paint. Here is what to realistically expect.

Matching Fresh Paint Is Straightforward

If you have the original color name and brand, or a sample chip, matching is easy. We can match from a physical sample of the existing paint when needed. Fresh, unfaded paint matches cleanly.

Aged Paint Is Harder to Match

Paint fades and shifts color over time — especially on sun-exposed walls. A touch-up using the original formula on aged surrounding paint will not match exactly. The older the existing paint, the more visible the difference.

Touch-Ups vs Full Repaints

For a touch-up, we set expectations: a blended but not invisible result on aged paint. For a uniform look, a full wall repaint is the path. We tell you honestly which to expect before any work starts.

How to Get the Best Match

Bring the original color name if you have it. If not, a sample chip or a switch-plate cover with the original paint on it works. The more reference we have, the closer the match.
